Welcome To Combined Meeting 22 Jan 2021

Richard “Bryce” Wilson

LDS Apostle Ronald A Rasband 22 Jan 2021

Conference Session: Saturday Morning (2:07 to 3:24) 22 Jan 2021

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints teaches that God is always watching us and supporting our development and progression

God’s glory increases as his dominion (Children/Subjects/Creations) increases.

His primary desire is for
1. Humanity to enjoy continuous development under his supervision.
2. This development is to occur in multiple phases.

Pre earth phase
Earth phase
After earth phase

3. Certain individuals will have a chance at an unlimited and eternal path of development based on their dedication to the principals of eternal salvation and exaltation as taught by modern day prophets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.

4. Some people will have chosen a life path that will reduce their opportunity for growth after their earth life has been exhausted.

5. God will be fair in choosing those people who get extra opportunities for development as no one has been provided the same set of trials.

6. God benefits by having the maximum number of his creations qualify for this immortality and eternal life.

7. Jesus Christ is the key to our progress and maximizing Gods work and Glory.

This Lesson Can Take Multiple Avenues. 24 Jan 2021

1. Going to the temple is tied to your eternal reward/progression.
2. Making changes in life to be worthy to go to the temple.
3. Why are temples important in our search for the path leading to eternal life and exaltation?
4. Why does this apostle expect us to understand his talk when it is packed full of very advanced concepts from the restoration of the true church of God?

The temple recommend is evidence that one is commited to following the advanced LDS ways 24 Jan 2021

Mosiah 4: 29-30 22 Jan 2021

Mosiah 4: 29-30
29 And finally, I cannot tell you all the things whereby ye may commit sin; for there are divers ways and means, even so many that I cannot number them.

10 Commandments 22 Jan 2021

The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17 NKJV)
1 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no
other gods before Me.

2 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is
in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the
Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments.

3 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the
heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

5 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving
you.

6 “You shall not murder.

7 “You shall not commit adultery.

8 “You shall not steal.

9 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

10 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

22 Jan 2021

Matthew 7:21-23
“Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my
Father which is in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart
from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

Hebrews 10:26-29 says, “For if we sin WILFULLY after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth
NO more sacrifice for sins, … He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much
sorer punishment, suppose you, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted
the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has done despite unto the Spirit of Grace?”

The Bible tells us how much sorer the punishment shall be for wilful sin

James 2:10-12 says,

“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he
that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art
become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.”

Thoughts

Talk #1: Elder Ronald A. Rasband (Quorum of the Twelve Apostles)

Summary Points:
1) Christ sets the standards for His temple. A temple recommend is not just a “pass” but rather means (if held worthily) that one is living in harmony with Christ’s laws and the Church’s doctrines.

2) During this pandemic, whether you are able to attend a temple or not, you should still hold a current temple recommend as part of your covenant path, per the directions given by President Howard W. Hunter.

Discussion Questions 22 Jan 2021

Discussion Questions
1) What worldly “shoes” do we need to take off and let go of?

2) What do you think hinders people from holding recommends? (not in a judgmental way, but rather a reflective and general way).

3) What is the responsibility of other members to those who don’t currently have a recommend (if any)? Should we help others renew or get their temple recommend if that is their goal?

4) How could our wards change if we all strived to hold temple recommends?

Action Steps: 22 Jan 2021

1) Review the temple recommend questions and ask for each, “why might the leaders of the Church have chosen this as one of the temple recommend questions”?

2) If you do not currently hold a temple recommend but want to, identify three things you could do today that would help you on this path.
